Elyra is the planet upon which The Ever Reach and The Wastes are located.

⚠️This information is speculative among the denizens of Elyra.

The Arcanum Order, through rigorous study, has determined that Primordial Elyra took the shape of a sphere. During The Primordial Age, the warring Precursor Colossi battled for dominance and transformed a significant majority of the world’s surface repeatedly, in a process lasting several hundred thousand years. As a result, it is nearly impossible to derive a meaningful estimation of the nature of Elyra’s surface prior to it’s modern state.

Research into primordial Elyra’s climate, ecology, and other features meets the same impediment: all evidence has been destroyed several times over.

Modern Elyra #

In general, Modern Elyra consists of the state of the planet, its inhabitants, and the events that occur on or after the date of The Great Division). The post-primordial interlude era (IPA)) saw an end to the previously frequent reshapings of the world, and by the start of The Rise Of Life, the planet had settled into a state of relative equilibrium.

Elyra is comprised of two primary planes, referred to as domains, which formed during The Primordial Age. These domains are The Ever Reach and The Wastes.

The Ever Reach is a generally habitable domain, comprised of several large land masses surrounded by vast oceans. Research suggests that The Ever Reach is roughly 60% water, and 40% land. Land areas of the Ever Reach have varying climates, with northern and southern climates generally being cooler and having a higher prevalence of ice and glacial tundras, while geographically centralized climates are generally warmer and more tropical. Most living races in Elyra make their home in The Ever Reach. The distribution of elements is such that The Ever Reach sees most of it’s ecology draw on natural, neutral or good-aligned elements for evolutionary features. This means that most of the ecological life on Elyra takes the form of nonpathogenic organisms, non-carnivorous plants, and other similar life forms.

In contrast with The Ever Reach, The Wastes is a generally harsh, inhospitable domain. It is covered almost entirely in hot and arid badlands, although some intelligent creatures (such as vampires) have managed to control the land and build upon it. Due to the nature of the domain, it is difficult to conduct significant research there; the best estimates are that it may be at most 5% water, and likely even less. The primary inhabitants of The Wastes are creatures such as demons, devils, and elementals of fire or earth which do not require hospitable climates to survive. Ecological life is generally pathogenic, carnivorous, and predatory. Additionally, due to the severe climate and danger, most surviving life is predisposed to violent and merciless traits, making death a common outcome of encountering such life unprepared.

Primordial Elyra’s spherical shape was lost when the planet was split during The Great Division. The Mortal Gods) sundered the world in two, splitting The Wastes apart to ensure that The Ever Reach would forever be safe from the demonic invasions spewing forth from it. As a result, the physical geography of Elyra was changed and the planet’s surface is now roughly flat, though the two halfs together each still form part of the former sphere.

Land Area #

Elyra is comprised of sixteen primary land masses of varying sizes. The largest of these are Aloril, Caoria, Erethil, and Avara which comprise a significant majority of Elyra’s land area. The Northern Wall, Okara, Okana, and Okela make up a chain of large islands north of Caoria, while Volskor is located north of Erethil. Az’aire, Chirai, Teremon, and the larger Vesevere are located in the Southeastern corner of Elyra while The Shattered Isles and Adalos are set in the central and western seas. Lastly, the untamed land north of Avara is commonly referred to as Northern Wilds, but is unsettled and has few resources.
