Aone, the Day

Aone, The Day #

Aone, the Day is one of two prime deities according to the Cycle of Light and Dark. According to this cosmology, he is the single omnipotent entity responsible for creating and shepherding life in the universe during the Cosmic Daytime, which occurs after Caelia, The Night has reordered all of creation during the Cosmic Nighttime.

Aone’s natural appearance is that of a gargantuan being of pure light. Beyond the luminescence, it is impossible to discern specific shapes or features of his natural form - even if a living creature saw him, the light that he emits is too bright to look upon directly. He can change his size at will, from a spec of pure light to a planet or even star-sized ball of radiance.

The Cycle of Light and Dark teaches that Aone, like his counterpart Caelia, was not born and does not age. Rather, he has always existed outside of time.

Activities #

Aone’s primary activity is to control the Cosmic Daytime, using it to shape the countless worlds of the universe as he sees fit. His goal is to promote life and growth; doing so causes an imbalance in the complex forces of eternity, pushing the universe towards the Cosmic Nighttime. When the Cosmic Sunset occurs, Aone retreats from creation to an unknown ephemeral plane of his own making, outside of the universe, where he slumbers until Caelia has completed her work.

Outside of the shaping of the universe, Aone can project an avatar of himself anywhere in the universe at any time to do as he pleases. He can do this while awake or asleep, regardless of whether the current cosmic cycle is that of daytime or nighttime. If he is asleep while projecting this avatar, the cosmic daytime does not progress and the growth of life attributable to his wakefulness does not occur.

Aone is omnipotent. He can select the physical appearance, traits, and features of his avatar at will and can change them whenever he desires. He can also grant his avatar any power in the universe he desires, and cause any event or effect he desires to occur.

Aone frequently projects his avatar to different worlds around the universe. He enjoys observing and interacting with the life he finds there, and finds great value in participating in it directly, although he almost never reveals his identity or powers, or intervenes in the natural progression and events of life, even if doing so would prevent some calamity.

Worshippers #

Aone’s does not have traditional worshippers. His presence and role in the universe is relatively unknown. The only appearance he makes in Elyran life is in a cosmological myth known as the Cycle of Light and Dark. The believers in this cosmology understand Aone’s role, but do not view him as a watchful deity to be worshipped and prayed to; rather, they view him as a conductor of the great mechanism of time.

Relationships #

Aone does not interact with the deities of specific worlds, including Elyra. The only other deity he curries a relationship with is Caelia, the Night, who stands in opposition to him as the Cosmic Daytime gives way to the Cosmig Nighttime. When Aone projects his avatar to a world, he may build fleeting relationships with the mortals he encounters if he chooses, but these are not substantial enough to warrant thought from him after his departure.
